The Meeting

>> Saturday, July 16, 2011

The meeting is to start at 7:30, but it has been requested that we be there by 7:15 to get the paperwork out of the way before starting time. As I round the corner to the meeting room, I’m surprised by the line of people snaking out the door and into the hallway.

This is going to be good!

I sign in, receive my folder and name tag and then head for a seat. The leader stands in front of us, the smile on her face lighting up the room. As I look around, I realize I know a lot of these people … even some of their families. My anticipation builds. I’ve been in these kinds of meetings with this leader before.

This is going to be a great night.

We open in prayer and the atmosphere in the room begins to change. The talking and hubbub settle down. We know God is going to be with us as we work our way through the folder.

Before we start the official meeting, we see the words on the first page. Words that talk about running to the Lord and that no one else will do … about God being our ever present help in time of trouble. Since I’ve been having some health issues, these words are a balm to my spirit.

More words on more pages. As the words on the pages make their way into our hearts, the electricity in the air builds. I can feel the connection as we all concentrate on God and what He has done for us.

Some hands go into the air. One of them is mine. How can I not praise Him?

We are nearing the end of the folder. God’s presence is so very real. I feel the need to stand in reverence. Soon everyone is standing.

We are at the end of our folder … and our words. With a prayer of blessing on us, we are free to go home … renewed in our spirits.

Choir practice is over for another week.

“I'm ready, God, so ready, ready from head to toe. Ready to sing, ready to raise a God-song: "Wake, soul! Wake, lute! Wake up, you sleepyhead sun!" Psalms 108:1-2 (MSG)
